Family Reunification in Germany – Your Path to Reuniting with Your Loved Ones
Family reunification offers relatives of third-country nationals in Germany the opportunity to live together in Germany. Whether you want to bring your spouse, registered partner, minor children, or in certain cases even parents to Germany—family reunification is the first step for many in establishing family life in Germany.

Our law firm in Hamburg supports you at every step of this often complex process. We ensure that your applications are submitted correctly and that all legal requirements are met so that you can reunite with your family in Germany as quickly as possible.

Our Services for Family Reunification
Family reunification is subject to numerous legal requirements in Germany and can vary depending on the residence permit and the group of individuals involved. As experienced attorneys in immigration law, we provide you with tailored support to ensure a smooth family reunification process.

Family Reunification for Spouses and Partners
Special requirements apply to spousal reunification. Both spouses must be at least 18 years old, and typically, the joining partner must have basic German language skills (level A1). In some cases, such as for skilled workers, proof of language proficiency can be provided after entering Germany. Additionally, sufficient housing and secured means of livelihood must be available.
Same-sex registered partnerships are, of course, subject to the same regulations as married couples regarding family reunification.

Family Reunification for Minor Children
Minor children can generally reunite with their parents or the custodial parent in Germany. Children under the age of 16 can join their parents without special requirements if the reunification is closely timed with the parents' move. For children aged 16 and older, additional conditions apply, such as C1-level German language skills or proof that they have attended a German-speaking school or grown up in a German-speaking environment.
